Economy

The economy has affected everyone, and I have seen it first hand. I work at a small family owned restaraunt, and like most restaraunts we are affected. Business has definately decreased over the last year. Last summer my boss had to raise the prices a little bit to keep up with the high gas prices of the delivery trucks that deliver to us. We still have our good days like most weekends and around the beginning of the month, but business has not been nearly as good as it was when I started working there a couple years ago. We are 24 hours, but the overnights have been so bad during the week that there has been talk of closing down overnight, at least Monday-Wednesday. The waitresses are definately feeling it as they are getting less money from tips, and one of them has even picked up a second job. I am not too worried myself because I am not planning on working there for more than another year or two, but for most of the people I work with they are going to be depending on this job for a long time, so everyone is really hoping that things turn around soon and business picks back up.

  1. This is good, but to make it really compelling, it could use more detail, more specifity. I understand not wanting to use names, but whatever further information you can give readers to ground your posting in a felt-reality, the better. Think about that for the subsequent posts.

At the same time, take better care with spelling (it's "definitely," not "definately") and paragraph structure. This post is really two or three paragraphs all run together as one block of copy. Remember that when writing for the internet, you're going to get and keep a larger audience if you package your copy in short graphs.

  3. Good post, Adam! You gave some good examples of how the economy is affecting people, but I think it would have helped to use specific names in your post.

  4. It's sad to see those who have had a good job their whole lives just gone down hill and they need to get a second job because of the economy. Good post.
